i'm very excited, this saturday i'm going to look at a II+ version. It has two 5.25 drives.

The seller mentioned that it needs a bit of service though. I don't mind a bit of servicing but i want to figure out if soemone knows any of these problems and if this is easely fixed and important any advice how to test it so it is "OK" to buy. 

The mentioned problems are:

2 ouputs not functioning
when getting warmer while heating up, some problems may occur with contacts. I don't know what this means maybe pressing buttons or something. But the sellers claims that it is now stable.

Also i like to know how the ideal set-up would be to load and save samples. I figured out it would be the II+ hooked up to a old Mac with SD or Alchemy. is that indeed "the" set-up?.

Yes, it is "the" setup, indeed (Mac + Sound designer for EII).

Concerning tech issues:
First thing I would do, is to reseat each and every IC inside the machine, also cleaning them plus replug all connections.

Most problems are solved afterwards. That's my experience.
