Sampled sound very low in volume.

Sampled sound very low in volume.

2009-07-20 by George

Hi,

After I sample a sound, it plays back very low in volume. During the metering/ gain adjusting process the input audio is looped thru in it's normal volume as well as during the sampling process. Once the "Sample is Good" message pops up and I try to play the sound, it's barely audible.

Could this be a bad A/D converter? Anyone?

Thanks.

George

this souds obvious, but is the input gain high enough? (Not just the knob, but the gain setting... "SAMPLE  page 3 )
Whats it metering on your EII when you are sending audio to it?

If it says "Sample is good" that just means the sample didn't clip while sampling..

Mike,

Thanks for the response. I'm aware of the gain settings on page 3 and tried various settings from 0 to 40db. I also metered the input audio close to max, just a bit under the clipping point.

What's next?

George

Re: [emulatorII-list] Re: Sampled sound very low in volume.

When you play the audio back, and turn it up heaps, how does it sound? (Thin / dull / distorted etc)

Hopefully it's a dry joint or a dud op-amp..

When you are in the "Sample" page, and playing a sound into it, does the sound come back out the EII at normal (Non distorted etc) volume?

Regards
Mike

Re: Sampled sound very low in volume.

Hey Mike,

It plays back non-distorted but very low in volume, barely-audible low. And that's with the master volume cranked up to max. My thought is that if the A/D would be bad, that the audio would be somewhat scratchy, distorted or so. But the fact that the audio basically sounds "intact" gives me hope that it might be a dry joint as you mentioned...

I might just take it to my tech as this is a bit over my head..

Thanks Mike!

George

cool, but to my last question..

when you play a sound 'thru' the emulator, ie monitoring it, is the sound also quiet?

Mike

Mike,

No, the audio that goes thru during metering and during the actual sampling process sounds in its full glory.

What do you think?

George
