ElmBeatz MySpace Tracks

2008-11-05 by George

Hi Elm-

Geile Beats Alter!! I didn't know you're also German...

Fat Beatz on your MySpace. Very oldskool. Did you use the EII for
drums/percussions as well or was that the SP I saw on your studio
pics? I'm new to the EII and didn't get the chance to midi it up yet.
I heard the EII is rather sluggish over midi timing wise... but this
sounded pretty tight! There were even 808ish hats playing 16th notes
without any timing problems....Cool!

Keep up the good work!!

George

Hey!

Thanks for the compliments!

ALL drums in my tracks come either from my EIII or from the SP.
They both got sequencers that are just heavenly superb.
With 'drums' I mean just the drums (snare, bass, hihats).
As I nowadays do not use MIDI anymore, all percussive stuff (congas,
toms, bongos, spoons, claps, etc.) I do play "by hand" with the EII
along with the EIII/SP beats played back, and record everything on the
fly the overdubbing way.
All other instruments (synths, saxes, strings, bass, etc.) come out of
the EII as well, played and recorded the same way: by hand, on the
fly, without any MIDI or sequencing (but with heavy use of various
Stompboxes and FX Pedals...)

In recent times (since harddisk recording is accessible to mortal
beings ;) I figured out for myself, that - for my purposes - I do not
rely on MIDI and sequencing that much any more, as I can record and
record and record and again and again, until I got the track right the
way i want it to be.

To me, sequencing and MIDI is just too time consuming and theoretical
these days (wish I got more time for makin music ;)
Loading instruments and playing along is what I like to do.

Greetz,
Elm!

This is weird man - Guess what:
For a few days i've really heavily been gassing for a vintage Fender
Jaguar...
You really speak outta my soul man!
Cheers!
Or like a Fender Rhodes -> combined with a wah and Phaser Pedal or
such -> Hmmmm.
It's just the tits! The EII with all it's libraries is just awsum!

Elm.

hand, and simply tracking your parts in real-time. I tend to view the
EII more like a vintage Fender guitar, if that makes sense? It is
definitely my ultimate "Mellotron" if you will.. great work elmbeatz
and Simon Owen!

That must have been a crazy guitar...
I'd even be happy with a reissue! I've got a Jazzmaster reissue, but I
just like the jag's shortscale neck better.

> Ah, yes a Jaguar would be just wonderful! Great minds think alike
Elmz ;) I played a late '65 (with the binding on the neck) and it was
my favorite guitar to date! ..not to mention it was also "Sea Foam
Green" w/matching headstock, and weathered in just the perfect way..
and a hefty price-tag of $7500(US)!! I hope the EII never reaches this
kind of madness.. though I did think for a quick second.. "now what
could I sell to buy the Jaguar?" totally pointless ;)

Was it a japanese, a mexican or even an american reissue you played?
Do you still recall?

> It sure was a beauty elmz! The neck/fretboard was like butter and
the tone was just amazing!! Yea, I went and played a reissue minutes
after the '65 and it sounded..well it was no Leo, but for the price
difference it would certainly kill the crave ;) I really wish they
would stop using that sticky glass-like poly finish on the necks
though!! bust out the sandpaper! My friend has a '64 Jazzmaster but I
definitely prefer the Jaguar's shorter scale as well.. someday ..maybe
one sunny yard-sale day :)

I got myself a Japanese Jag, like it and recorded a track featuring it:
