SD > EII has stopped working! ANY help would be really appreciated!

2008-04-21 by Martin Dubka

Just to clarify -

The EII works fine on it's own.

I have tested the SD cable and it's okay.

I boot up the EII from a factory disk (v2.3) and the preset has omni midi enabled.

No midi cables are connected to the EII.

I have tried the set-up with both printer and modem ports (which have also been duly
configured within SD).

I tried putting the EII into Macintosh Mode before attempting to send a bank from the
mac.

I even tried booting up the EII from each of the 2 floppy drives.

The Mac can sometimes be a little difficult to boot up, as can the top drive of the EII.

The worst part of all is that it USED TO WORK fine. A little capricious but nothing to write
home about. And what is more, it stopped working during a session when it had been
used successfully for a number of hours that day.
Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions? I love my EII and can't stand not being able
to use it anymore.

Many Thanks in advance,

Martin

I forgot to add -

The message from within SD when I attempt to send a bank to the EII is "I can't communicate
with EII make sure the cable is connected" etc.

But when I do this, the EII springs to life and the disk starts turning and it's put into "under
control of macintosh" mode.

Furthermore, "exit mac mode" within SD also returns the EII to it's normal state which would
suggest that SD can indeed communicate with the EII on some level.

I hope that rings a bell for someone.
Cheers again,

Martin

Excellent thorough post Martin; you are certainly checking all the
right things.

Did you take a hard look at everything on the Mac end (AppleTalk,
network/port/communication settings, possible file corruption, etc)?
You mentioned the Mac can be slow starting up; are there any problem
extensions loading (or required extensions failing)? Might you have
access to a second Mac (or E-II) to swap in?

Good luck, wish I could be of more help.
