New EMXP version. Extended Emulator III/IIIX support...

2008-03-15 by esynthesist

Hi all

This is just a small message to let you know that I (pre)released the
newest version 2.05 of EMXP.

Besides some small bug fixes and enhancements, the major new feature
is the extended support for Emulator III and Emulator IIIX samplers.
Version 2.05 should be able now to convert soundbanks between Emax,
Emax-II, Emulator-II, Emulator-III and Emulator-IIIX.

I tested this version during more than one month in my own studio. I
hope I removed all bugs :-) but I can't guarantee since the software
is becoming more and more complex.

Please note that translated soundbanks don't always sound like the
original ones on the original sampler...
...just to say that during the tests and finetuning of the v2.05
translation engine I was impressed again by the unique character of
each of these vintage Emu samplers. It's really almost impossible to
let a voice sound exactly the same on each of these machines.

The EMXP software is freeware and can be found in the files section
of the Emax Yahoo Group or on the EMXP website
(http://users.skynet.be/emxp)

Have fun

Thanks

About the DPX->EII. That's a tricky one... DPX doesn't have its own
soundbankformat. It simply takes the original format (S900, P2000/2,
EII or Mirage) and changes it a little bit before writing it to
it's "own format".
So to be able to convert any DPX disk to EII, I need the specs of all
supported DPX samplerformats. The S900 and EII I have, but I don't
have the Mirage and P2000/2 specs (yet ? :-).
Anyway, it's easy to recognize on any DPX disk what the original
format was, so it's definitely quite easy to make a DPX->EII tool for
both EII and S950 'DPX' disks.

By the way: the next version of OmniFlop will also support DPX
correctly (now it contains a major bug). This means that one of the
next versions of EMXP will also support DPX directly, incl.
writing/readin the disks. EMXP uses OmniFlop as its default floppy
access driver, as opposed to DPXTOOLS which relies on Simon Owen's
great FDRAWCMD driver.
Maybe I will then include the DPX-> translation in my EMXP
translation engine. The advantage of putting it in EMXP instead of
using separate tools like DPXTOOLS is that all EMXP supported
samplerformats would immediately become candidate for conversion
to/from DPX.

The bad news is that I really don't have enough time anymore to work
on these things, the next months my agenda is completely filled with
other things, both personal and job related. So my EMXP/DPX project
is put on hold (again) for a few months. That's why I had to speed up
the release of v205 and why I hope this v205 is quite stable :-)

Hi list
I have a Mac II set up for Sound Designer for E2, new 330MB hard drive,
keyboard, mouse, graphics card and 17" Mitsi CRT monitor.
No CDROM drive though, but perfect Mac for the EII.

Its in the UK, Sussex. Free to a good home, buyer collects. I need the
space....anyone interested?

Hi Rob.
How much it is that machine ? I am living in Oslo Norway. I have EII+HD. Since i bought it, last sommer, I've never worked with it, because of renovating my flat...
Thx, the best regards from an owner of ,, The Dream Machine'' ,

Hi,

so this means that it would be possible to write a program to convert
dpx-1 to EII banks from Emulator DPX disks?
For me this would be perfect :).

Including DPX-1 in EMXP is a great idea. For me this is the missing
link since I have a lot of DPX library disk.
I could try to make this conversion software but I have too little
information about the formats. I am really interested in information
about the EII file format.

Good luck for your other projects!
Keep it up!

Cheers

EII DPX --> EII SD native is indeed very easy to program.
You just need the decoding algorithm for the sound part, and some EII
addressing scheme knowledge :-)

Since I have those specs here, maybe if I find some time in between
my other activities, I'll make this little program for you. It will
only take a few hours to program, and I can add it to the DPXTOOLS
package (not to EMXP, that will take more than a few hours :-)

I just have to find a timeslot of a few hours... Mmmm...
