More Mac questions.

More Mac questions.

Please excuse my ignorance.. but would a MAC LC-457 or Performa 457
work well with SD?

I've potentially got access to one of these, and am wondering if this
would be better than the ebay one i mentioned in an earlier email?
[Mac IIsi with OS7.5]

If i get an old mac, how easy is it to find an old OS disk etc?
Assuming the OS is too high..

Much regards

Mike

I think they should work.
Apple offers system 7.5 for free download, just in case you need it.
Take a look at this site:

BUT, I'm not really sure if those macs work.
The database claims that at least a Performa 575 works.

Greets,
Elm.

You must mean a Performa 475...? Yes, SD should work fine. The 475 is
68040 based. You will want OS 7.5 and 8mb of ram min with this
machine. That is my Performa 575 in the group database.

In general terms of running Sound Designer whats important is CPU,
RAM, and OS. The ideal combination (fastest computer available with
least amount of reported Sound Designer problems) would be an 68030
based CPU, 4mb RAM (more is better) and OS 7.1

In terms of CPU speed; a 68030 is roughly equivalent to a 386 and a
68040 is roughly equivalent to a 486 in PC terms.

SD runs fine on OS 7.5 (available free), but for OS 7.5 you should
bump min system RAM to 8mb to avoid frustration.

More detailed Mac info is available through the group links section.
