Howd you guess Wayne??? <g>!
There are already 2 Emax groups:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/emax/
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/emax2/
There are also E-III/E-IV groups and a DPX-1 group.
This is the original, the oldest, the largest, and IMO the best
dedicated E-II discussion group on the net. With Creatives Labs
abandonment of the old E-Mu samplers, this group was started as a
means to archive E-II specific information and technical expertise to
ensure the E-IIs viablity for both current and future generations. We
have or had folks lurking on this list who were part of the original
E-II and E-II sample libraries development teams.
I think this list should should stay dedicated for alot of reasons,
one of which is to preserve the integrity of the message archives for
future owners. These machines are getting quite old and most new
members are coming here searching for repair info, interfacing
answers, and boot disks. Hell, just today we have a post from a brand
new member saying its too much hassle for him to do a simple message
search for a topic thats been covered ad-nauseam! Imagine how much
harder search will be in a general E-mu sampling forum...
Id also like the files section to stay E-II specific as well for the
same reasons and because we only have 100mb to play with. Id MUCH
rather see it overflowing with user created Sound Designer banks that
our members can download and PLAY immediately, than big generic wav
multisamples that need to be converted with EMXP etc and Mac fork
restored with ResEdit before any *music* can even be heard or enjoyed.
Then theres message delivery: Many here are simply E-II owners and
have no interest in the other E-mu products. Should we flood their
inboxes with messages about equipment they dont own nor have any
interest in discussing? For these reasons and more, I think this group
should stay THE premier place to come for unadulterated E-II info and
discussion.
I dont mind if things get off-topic once and a while (ie: the current
E-I thread!), but I think I speak for most members here when I say the
E-II is special not only technically, but also in a truly historic
sense...Anyone who was playing and creating music in the 80's will
quickly verify this sentiment.
This little group will be having its seventh anniversary next month
and we are now 250 members strong. I lean towards flying a dedicated
E-II flag and slurping Coca Cola classic. Can everybody dig it? ;)
Best,
Phil (hexafuzz)
