What kind of wah wah would you recommend?

What kind of wah wah would you recommend?

2008-01-11 by elmbeatz

Hi everybuddy!

I'm thinking about buying a wah wah for my EII (i'd like to use it
with rhodes style sounds etc.)
Has anybody used a wah wah with the EII (or any other synth) and can
recommend a specific one?

Thanks in advance for answering.
Greetings,
Elm.

Isn't the EII's mix output line level?
I don't know for certain but I'm guessing it would distort through a guitar pedal unless
you plan on using something like a Reamp inbetween the EII and the wah (to bring the
signal down to guitar level).
As for wah pedals - the most classic, recognisable sounds are always crybaby and vox.
Hope that's of some help.
Martin

You can use the E-II filter to create a wah effect. Try this:

Load your Rhodes/Wurlie etc sample.

Setup the Real Time Control module so that the right wheel is
controlling the filter (2:2)

Setup the Filter module to modify all voices on the keyboard with the
following settings: Freq: 120 Q: 70 Env: -40

Now when you move the right wheel you should have a basic wah effect
of sorts. Of course the above filter settings are just a starting
point, tinker with it to suit your application.

If you want to use a pedal instead of the right mod wheel, just plug a
modulation/continuous controller pedal into the A/D input on the rear.
I use a Behringer FCV100 (use a TRS cable) http://www.behringer.com/FCV100

Hell yea! I use a CryBaby WaaWaa pedal.. picked it up at a flea sale for $10. Sounds great on Clavs & Pianos..

I revel in the fact that i'm running a (once) $25K Synth through a $50 pedal.

Maybe a tiny bit, but it all adds to the character..

sounds good! So the sound doesn't get distorted by the cry baby as
it's got line level?

The moogerfooger has to be the best phaser out there in my opinion.. nice and old school sounding.. very classic.
I was kinda impressed by the behringer vintage phaser too.. the build is crap, but it sounds kinda similar.. they are dirt cheap too.
The moogerfooger has the advantage of heaps more options.. better build.. looks damn cool with the timber finish.. and CV in's.

  Cheers

Cry Baby - just ordered it.. YEAH!

Thanx folks, can't wait for it...

By the way - has anybody checked out the moogerfooger phaser thing?

Hey thanx for replying!

That Moogerfooger is appearing very cool indeed....
But the price tag.....

I want to apply a phaser to the EII's solina (high) strings to have
that spacey strings used back in the 70s days.. In combination with
wah rhodes you know?

My phonic mixing console features a phaser effect, but it's not really
adjustable, and not really nice or deep (though I can live with it..)

that behringer thang has a much nicer price tag INDEED.
And you really consider it as a true comparison to that moog thang?
(I can hardly believe..)

I searched ebay for vintage phasers, there are some ...

Greetz, Elm.

I got a Solina, and have run it though the behringer vintage delay, (I think it's a knock off of the EH Small Clone???)
Sounded rad, very Jarre / 70's

  Cheers

  Mike.

THAT 70's phaser sound is usually a Mu-Tron Bi-Phase (also very expensive) but I've seen
Jarre perform Oxygene live and he used an Electro Harmonix Small Stone phaser (which
certainly won't break the bank). Also, the MXR phase 90 and 100's were and are very
popular. But again, be wary of line levels or you'll end up more gritty than spacey.
Hope that's of some help.
