EMXP

EMXP

2007-12-16 by laurent

Dear E-Synthesist

Off course , to start, i do thank you a lot for EMXP and the new
version is pretty usefull for the emax I & II owners.
I own an emulator II, all my banks are translated already into EII
files & now i can translate those to Emax I , II.

Fact is i don't own an emax I or II but an Emulator IIIXp, which can
import Emax II....but it is not handy at all & requires the patient of
a saint.
My question is pretty simple ,even if i do get the fact it takes some
time to setup & programm such things , is a hard task to program the
EII files translation to Emulator III( EIIIXP) ?

I know you have already planned it but fact is ,as far as i know ,
that the Emax II format is not that far from the EIIIXP.

Do you think this could pop up into EMXP soon ?

Regards,

laurent

Laurent,

You're correct when saying that the format of the EIII is similar to
the Emax one. But as always there are some subtle differences which
can be a "pain in the ***" when programming software interfaces
to/from the EIII. Nevertheless I have the full specs here, so in
theory I can start coding full EIII support into EMXP. Only the
original EIII format will be supported though, I won't investigate
the (small) differences between EIII and EIIIX. The EIIIX is able to
import/export EIII, so that seems OK. The most important disadvantage
of this choice is that only a max of 8MB samples will be supported.

About priority in software development: I have to choose between
including support for SoundFont2 and support for Emulator III.
The SF2 seems the best choice for me because:
- it's a popular format, which means that other translation software
can be "linked" to EMXP. EMXP can translate EII to SF2, and
Translator can translate from SF2 to Halion - or the other way around.
- as you said, the EIIIX is able to import EMAX-II, so at least
there's a workaround for getting Emax/EII soundbanks in the EIIIX.
But including EIII support will definitely be easier than adding SF2
support.

Anyway I just started the SF2 stuff, so probably I'll do that first.

Update: since the SF2 support in EMXP will take some time, I decided
to put the full Emulator III support in EMXP first. Development has
already started and is going quite fast.
SF2 will be added later, immediately after the Emulator III release.
The +EmuIII version will probably be released during the first
quarter of 2008.

Today is the 24th of december.

Today i have realized that "the man in red" really exists.
Dear E-Synthesist, thank you for wearing red clothes !

It is an amazing piece of news, thank you so much !

Merry christmas to all

Hi E-Synthesist!

Yesterday, I got the Idea to send some of those great EII drum Banks
to my EIII, because I use that one for all my drum tracks. As this
feature doesn't exist yet, I was wondering when the next version of
EMXP is coming. to be perfectly honest, I just can't wait for it ::))

Are you confident that you'll manage a full EIII support, or are you
facing problems?

Greetings,
Elm.

-
I personnaly visit his site everyday in order to check if the
"seminal" update is here.

:=)

He already answered to this question in fact & he was 100% confident
the feature will be added soon .

I'm excited too , cool down a prepare the E3 for the E2's banks invasion.

Laurent
