Mac questions...

2007-10-20 by Martin Dubka

I was wondering - if I get an old mac that doesn't have a cd-drive,
does it need 2 scsi ports? 1 for the cd-drive and one going to the
EII? I've never used these old machines before (or anything with
scsi). Could some of you list your set-ups so I can get an idea of
what I need? Thanks again for your help,
Martin

You only need one SCSI port on your Mac Classic for the CD-drive or
ZIP-drive.
The connection between Mac and EII uses a serial port, not a SCSI
port.
You have to connect the EII "computer interface" with a special cable
to the Mac. This cable must have a mini-DIN8 connector towards the
Mac and a DB25 connector towards the EII. For specs about this cable -
or ordering it - see www.emulatorarchive.com.

Configurations can be found in the database section of this group.

The E-II connects to a Mac serial (printer or modem) port, not via
SCSI. Check the group "Files" section for Sound Designer docs and manuals.

No need for multiple SCSI ports; SCSI allows you to chain 7 devices.
If the Mac you choose doesnt have an internal CD-drive, you will want
an external SCSI CD-drive. Check the Group "Links" section for sites
that will get you up to speed on older Mac information.

When shopping for your old Mac, a 68030 based machine or better is
recommended. Check the group "Database" for working member setups.
