Looking for the OMI library...

Looking for the OMI library...

2007-10-18 by Martin Dubka

Hello everyone, I'm new to all this and looking for sample libraries. Emulator archive states
that the 3 OMI cd's are still available, but I can't seem to find them on www.quparts.com.
Any ideas? Anyone? Anyone? Bueller...
Also, do I need a seperate cd-drive for the mac classic in order to transfer the samples from
cd to mac to E II? Thanks in advance,
Martin

Hi
The Emulator Archive still supplies a Mac serial cable for connecting the
EII to a Mac, along with Sound Designer for EII Mac software and a free CD
with a variety of professional EII sample banks including OMI.

Thanks Rob,
great site by the way - really cool. So do I need some sort of external CD drive for the Mac
Classic in order to run all this stuff? Or do I use the cd to make disks on a pc to use in the
Mac?
Cheers,
Martin

Hi
Thanks :-)

Yes the legacy Mac needs an internal or external CDROM drive. Its a Mac CD
with 500 EII sample banks...so putting them on floppy is not an option..
contact me on rob@... for more details.

Just want to add that I didn't use a Mac CD-drive when I received
this great CD from Rob.
I've put it in my WinXP PC and used the trial version of MacDisk to
copy all files from that CD to my PC and then from PC to a ZIP disk
for Mac.
But in that case of course you'll need a SCSI zipdrive for your Mac
and a zipdrive connected to your PC.
Don't know if that's anything better :-)

By the way: this CD-ROM from emulatorarchive is really a "must have":
there are a lot - and I mean really a LOT - of vintage banks on it.
I've seen people paying hundreds of dollars/euros to buy only a small
part of this set on Ebay (on floppy).

Speaking of which, ///E, how's the new EMXP coming along?

I work with the current version often. Great program. I eagerly await the
ability to export EIII banks or soundfonts for use in Kontakt.

Thanks!

The next version is coming... probably next month. New features will be
at least full support for Emulator II and translation from Emax (I/II)
to Emulator II. Maybe also the other way around. Currently I'm using
already Emax factory banks on my EmuII and it sounds great, but it
still requires some finetuning of the parameter tables, esp. the cutoff
frequencies.

Additional Emu-III features will be part of the next-next version. The
process of reverse engineering the Emu-III has been completed though so
I have the full specs now.
SoundFont 2 support will be developed in parallel, I don't know when it
will be released.
SoundFont 2 will probably replace Akai S1000. I don't think anyone is
using the Akai features and I guess SoundFont 2 is a better way of
providing a "bridge" between EMXP and other translation software.
