Emulator II backlight question

Emulator II backlight question

2007-07-20 by Simon_Owen

Hi Folks

I've just recently bought an EII to replace my busted Emax due to the
PSU going phut! However, the display backlight on the EII has now
gone and i'm wondering if any bits from the Emax could be used on the
EII. What would i initially be looking at replacing if this was
possible. The EL Foil or the transformer.

I'd placed the busted Emax on ebay for a really cheap price but no-one
wanted it, so i may as well use it for parts for the EII if possible.

Any advice appriciated.

Regards
Simon

Hello Simon. First off if you can still read data on display the
inverter is working and all you need is a foil change. If you would
like one precut and ready to replace, all that is involved is
removing cover, then display board, unsolder 2 contact wires, slide
out old, slide in new, connect and replace board on cover. Search
out articles named "elfoil or backlight" in this sites posts for
more details. Also photos in technical will help. BTW Telesis is a
good source for precut elfoil. Doug (EII with bright blue

Hello,

I think, that this is not correct, because the display itself has
nothing to do with the display backlight. The inverter has just the
function to power the el-foil for backlighting the display. So it
don`t has to be the foil, which is out of order. It could also be the
inverter. But as much as I have seen and read in the www, in the most
cases it is the foil, which has to be changed. In the photo section
you can see some photos, I´ve uploaded as I have changed the foil on
my EII.
Because I`m from germany, I`ve bought the foil here:
http://www.midi-rakete.de/ger/preise.htm

Best regards
Heiko

Thanks for the advice folks, but what i'm really trying to get at is can i take what's my
busted emax and transplant it into the EII? As far as i've seen, the inverter is exactly the
same, don't know about the foil though.

Thanks

Simon
