Mac SD & EII comms problem

Mac SD & EII comms problem

2007-06-04 by Simon_Owen

Hi there

Well, i've finally aquired my shiny new EII and i'm having difficulty connecting it up to my Mac.
I've got an old Powermac G3 running MacOS 8.6. I've tried both the modem and printer port
to try and get the two talking and i'm not having any luck. I've checked the extensions to see
if the serial ports and enabled and they are. The message i'm getting is "I can't communicate
with the E2, make sure cable is connected and the current preset has midi on."

How do i check to see if the current preset has midi on. I'm sure it probably does.
I've also tried 2 cables. It this vintage of mac compatible?

Any ideas anyone? Thanks in advance.

Simon

SV: [emulatorII-list] Mac SD & EII comms problem

2007-06-04 by Brian Ronn

Hi Simon

  Just a suggestion:

Try and activate the 'Special' module buttom on the EII before you try communicating from the Mac. Some EII's seem to have trouble activating this module.

What Mac model are you using. Have you checked with the Mac compatible list in the Database section in this group.

Make sure that your EII does not receive midi data when your Mac communicate with the EII. Pull out the midi cable to be sure. The EII freezes up when receiving midi when in Mac mode.

  I hope this helps you

  Best regards

Re: EII going live

This is mainly for you Wayne. Taking the EII out for a live one this
weekend, will be accompaning the Mellotron and triggering the E4.
Since the Tron has held up with no problems, am dying to get the EII
in action, especially now I can read the screen. Do you know any hard
drive prayers? Doug

Doug...............
There is no hard drive prayer I know of, but could
have used one many times.
Opening for Icehouse in the 80's, my DX 7 IIFD drive
would freeze when too near the masive power cluster
f--k that powered up their 200,000watts of overhead
par cans.
I remember a stage hand tipping me off and running for
a 200 ft extension cord. We moved way away from the
power pole where the lighting was getting juice...and
it loaded right up.
He should be a major league technical giant by
now...........
but he's most likely passed-out in a pile of empty
beer cans in a Motel 6 in Arkansas.
Sorry,............he saved the show.

Hi David,

It would be a surprise if he met his end in Arkansas, no big acts ever make it a point to play here, unless they're just passing through! Well, I take that back, we are starting to get some big names here...

I still take my EII out for a spin on gigs once or twice a month. It has a few popping noises and then if I either jiggle the line going to the Mix Out jack or tap the bottom of the keyboard, it works great for the rest of the night. The old beast still stands out and holds its own on many types of sounds. For example, people claim they thought we had a horn section tucked away somewhere when we play. I got a disk from E-mu years ago that was converted from Emax samples called Emax Pop Brass, and it's pretty authentic. I don't have the SD software or a Mac so I can't offer it on the Files section for everybody. I'm more of a PC user.

Dave, well it's the thought that counts. BTW I used to be a
stagehand, actually a projectionist in Cleveland and at the time
was a good paying union job that paid my way through college.
Granted some are knuckleheads, but most of the ones I knew were true
craftsmen. When you think of all the hazards of working around all
the power runs and setting rigging, these craftsmen did it right and
we all went home without any mishaps. Will always be proud to have
been among that group. With that I hope your acquaintance did not
meet with the fate you described. Doug

Hey Doug.............
I sure didnt' mean to shound like I was bashing
stagehands everywhere...............I was not only
kidding, but was talking about this particular
guy............he was stumbling drunk.
Hell, even in that state he bailed us out.
Sorry if you took offense.

Re: [emulatorII-list] Re: EII going live

2007-06-18 by David Dehart

Hey Tommy.....
Thanks for the thoughts..........he might well have
ended up there again, 'cause that's where he said he
was from.............
Anyway...........you're a hard working guy to take the
beast out on the road..............but you can't beat
the filters. That real analog twist is so
unique...............It's one of my favorites. I have
three.....one is a parts keyboard at this point
because someone used the two outside keys for a repair
(of course).......and it's missing a one of the RAM
boards.........but It does power up and is very clean.

So if the old girl goes down, I just might be able to
help. It looks like all the other chips are there, so
unless I get it up and running, I can always try to
loot a part for you.
Best of luck toting the beast around.............
Take your protien pills and put your helmet on......

well this past weekend, have a bank called "brass my ass" sounds
multi-layered and very punchy, had a lot of fun with it and the
Tron. Will get a clip or two on YOUTUBE when I can and will leave a
