Emulator II (1MB & 2 Floppy) HS

Emulator II (1MB & 2 Floppy) HS

2007-06-02 by Jean-Bernard Emond

hello,

I had a emulator II broken down!

According to its last owner, it was broken down one day and it did not try to make it
repaired.

Now, It boot any more, it does not charge any more the diskettes at the beginning.
I dismounted the two floppy, there were condensers to do acid leak, I changed the
condensers and I'll make some more tracks leak by the acid.

But no progess, ...

I download the DEBUG ROM (IP341 E2+ DEBUG 1986, CSUM 1B72 (2764)) in the files
section in yahoo forum.

I make own Eprom (2764) with it, i read the good checksum, I replaced the MAIN ROM with
the DEBUG ROM.

Always the same messages at starting like MAIN ROM.

After I connect on the serial (DB25) port in back of the Emulator II.

I dont have any message or reply / reaction from it :(

I made a cable as indicated in the service manual.

Who has an idea ?

They say that the Emulator II floppy drive (Shugart) were compatible with the commodore
1541 floppy drive, is this truth ?

Thank you sorry for my very bad English,

JB

Hi
First thing to do - check all the power rails are ok. Check the voltage to
every board.
Buy or find a service manual - I can sell you one as a PDF download.
Replace the floppy drives with working units - do not try and reapir them -
you don't know they work.
Leave the debug EPROM alone, use the main OS EPROM. Debug is for the
factory...

Most EII problems are very basic, power supply, floppy drive, internal
cables, worn out LCD, worn out buttons.
The electronics are generally reliable, voices fails due to switched
capacitor chip (dead voice) or sound muffled (SSM chip failure).

Rob
