Emulator II & Atari Sound Designer

Emulator II & Atari Sound Designer

2007-05-23 by Simon_Owen

Hi Everyone

I'll be picking up my newly aquired Emulator II next week to replace my now sadly demised
Emax 1 (Bust PSU, Ideas Anyone?). Previously, i've used an old Atari St with a copy of Sound
Designer Universal over MIDI to transfer and edit samples, and it's worked ok. Will this work
with the Emulator though?

Many thanks

Simon

Hello Simon,

no, the EII cannot dump samples via MIDI. It just goes with the
RS422 serial port connected with an old mac-computer (have a look at
the database-section) and "sounddesigner for Emulator II" (get a
copy at the files-section).

Best regards
Heiko

The Emulator Archive seems to list Sound Designer Universal as working with the
E-II and the Atari:

However as Heiko mentioned, you must use a serial port connection and there are
differences between the E-II specialized Mac version the rest of us are using.

"Sound Designer Universal is undoubtedly a better generic sample editor than the
previous separate versions. However the individual features that supported each
sampler have been removed. So the very useful Emulator II Sample Bank transfer and
front panel controls have gone."
