broken Mix Output jack

broken Mix Output jack

2007-05-21 by Arthur W. Green

A mishap that occurred while setting up my Emulator in my new
apartment broke the Mix Output jack on the rear. The plastic shaft
of the jack is broken, and the jack now seems to wiggle a bit where
it is soldered to the output board.

The jack at first seemed usable in the interim, but every so often a
loud Pop noise is produced from the audio output. The last time it
did that, I thought the output board was cooked, because the synth
stopped producing sound entirely (even on the channel outputs)!
Fortunately, the problem corrected itself after about half an hour;
but needless to say, I'm not taking any chances by powering up the
unit until this problem is fixed!

I don't trust myself with these kind of repairs. Could someone be so
kind as to recommend me someone familiar enough with the EII who
could service my unit? Ideally, I'd just like to send the output
board to have the jack serviced, and not the whole synth.

Thank you kindly for your time!

\\ Arthur

Re: Arthur: First you should let us know where you are from. I am
near Cleveland. Second, the female board jacks are still
available, but as I recall, my EII+ has two different style jacks,
one a straight 2 connect and other may have a metal strip to lift
ground. Either way it is just a matter of unsoldering jack and
resoldering new one to board. If you are unable to find resources
in your area just get back to me and we will go from there. Doug

Hey Doug.............
My Emulator Darwin has an output jack with the outter
sleeve broken off as well.
Do you have a suggestion on a replacement part ?
I'm OK with removing and soldering in the new part,
but am clueless on what and where to get
replacements.............
Thanks everyone for the discussions. Although I'm not
really vocal in the discussions, I read and learn from
them all.
Thanks again.

Hi Dave, First contact would be EMU as this type jack is used on
the E4xt as well. Next would be DigiKey, they are helpful and had
what I needed for the EII. An interim fix would be to just go to
radio shack and get a standard 1/4" female and fasten to case, run
the wires to existing connector, not familiar with the Darwin layout,
but you would be up and running in the meantime. When my out jack
on the EII was accidentally broken I took one of the 8 independent
out jacks off and used it until I got replacements. If you are
unable to find one, let me know and I will do some digging. Doug

I put a shot of what I did for me battle-hardened
Mirage in the new MISC folder of the photos section. [w]

Hey Doug............
Thanks for taking the time to send the advice. I'll
let you know what happens.
