By the way: are those things still available somewhere ?
Or can someone give full (jumper) specs on its own 3.5 FD setup ?

Route66studios don't list them on their "currently available" list
anymore and they are not answering my e-mails either...
I need one...

Hello Brian,

could you tell more about it? I would also like to get a working
EII+ - 3,5"-diskdrive setup. I`ve tried to get the recommended TEAC
FD235HF-A529 drive, but without success. Please help me/us.
Pleeeeaaaaaassseeeeeee. :-)

Best regards
Heiko

2007-03-17 by Brian Ronn

Hi Heiko

I did this 3.5" drive modification around 5 years ago so don't remember in detail.

I searched for drives with the posibilities of changing the jumper settings for the ID 0 and 1.I collected around 10 different 3.5" floppy drives from Fujitsu and HP computers (typically 66 to 133Mhz type cpu computers) and tried each of them out. I jumpered the drive either to 0 or 1 (don't remember), painted the front end black and mounted the drive in the lower bay in a 3.5" to 5.25" adapter frame.

I had to find a power cable adapter to fit the new drive and as I recall I had to find a data cable adapter too.

I¨m able to read and write banks to the 3.5" drive the same way as I do with the 5.25" drive.

I think it all comes down to finding the right drive which doesn't have to be the TEAC FD235HF-A529 as long as the floppy drive ID can be changed. My EII is running on OS 2.6.

Feel free to ask any further questions and I try to answer :-)

  Best regards

  Brian

Hi Brian,

it would be very nice, if you would have a look inside of your EII
for checking out which drive do you have. I know it`s hard and much
work what I want from you, but it would help me and maybe others
here very much. I`ve tried several drives, I`ve had - some of them
with the possibility of changing jumper-settings, but none of them
worked.

Best regards
Heiko

Hello Brian,

thank you so much. That would be a great job. Maybe you have the
possibility to make some pictures of the drive and the cable?!
Please upload them to the Photos-section.

Thank you so much for your help.

Best regards
Heiko

3.5" drive information for the EII

2007-03-25 by Brian Ronn

Hi Heiko

I've disassembled my EII to see the 3.5" floppy drive info.

The drive is an IBM drive with the this sparesome info: P/N-1619655 L1YF0151752.

The drive has a jumper section on the back and the jumper is set to ID 1 (Lower drive bay).

To convert the data cable from the old 5.25" drive to the 3.5" I have a connector plate that is insertet in the female 5.25" drive cable and into an identical female connector. The identical female connector has a usual 3.5" connector at the other end of it's cable.

I have a typical power cable converter from the usual HD/CD power connector to the 3.5" floppy power connector. This cable can be bought in any computer shop.

I've taken some photos with my phone but haven't got the possibility to transer the photos to the computer. But I'll work on that and upload the photos to the photo section of this group.

I think that if you can find a 3.5" drive with a jumper block where you can change the ID number from 0 to 1, then there's some and maybe a good chance that the drive will work in the EII.

I hope this information helps you :-)

  Best regards

  Brian

Re: 3.5" drive information for the EII

2007-03-25 by Heiko Mehring

Hi Brian,

thank you so much for doing this and also for the photos you`ve
uploaded. Now we know of a second working 3,5" drive for the EII. I
have tried several ones, also two drives with jumperblock, where you
can change the ID. But none of them worked. Now I know another
drive, which I can looking for.

Thanx again.

Best regards
Heiko

Re: 3.5" drive information for the EII

2007-03-26 by Heiko Mehring

Hello Brian,

I have another question. Have you seen some other jumper-adjustments
on the drive, like one for the "ready"-signal (shortcut: ry,rd or ...)
or some others?

Best regards
Heiko

Hello Heiko

No, I haven't seen those jumper-adjusment names. But the drive has 2 rows of 4 jumpers each and no other jumpers than the ID set to 1 is enabled.

  Best regards
