Re: [emulatorII-list] Emulator II Sequencer Question

2012-08-11 by Tyler Burns

James: Really?! Nobody uses the sequencer anymore? Wow, Depeche Mode made their career off of that sequencer. (They weren't using an external sequencer, were they?) I'm more than happy to do MIDI sequencing, but I was trying to challenge myself. My cousin and I are starting an all-analog studio and I was going to try to print SMPTE to tape and do everything old school.

Mike: Which quantization type did you generally use on the EII? When doing MIDI sequencing on my DAW I pretty much always quantize to 1/16 when I'm in 4/4. So odd that it's not lining up with the metronome...

the reason why it's unusable basically is because if you're clocking the sequencer say from an SP1200 or 12, and you use the clock out, the EII has that lag time to access the floppy disk to get it's next set of instructions. That lag time destroys everything. Every time it makes a move you know it has to access the disk. One thing I tried and I posted it on the other forum (weak) was to get the EII to read midi files. I would load up a midi file in Ableton and pump it through the EII's input and it would actually record it. So I would then hit play and the midi file was there.  That was fun. I think the sequencer is good for scratch pad sequencer for melodies and pads, and that's about it. And using the EII in Supermode blows too if you're trying to use a serious hardware or soft sequencer. I think most people just use it for real time playing these days and that's it.

I've used it's sequencer a bunch of times, and got it to quantize fine.
Not sure if it's an OS thing or something else.

I played with it's sequencer, but never really liked it that much.. I don't think your missing out on much.

Interesting...am I not supposed to use the sequencer haha?

Man, I just got this thing fixed and it froze on me after about 40 minutes of use. Did that happen normally to you?

I have an Emax SE HD now. It's nice. Not sure if I will keep it.

Sorry bro. I had many questions in the forum for the EII and never got a response
because I don't think anyone used the sequencer.

Weird, I was just thinking about you the other day too..

I'm trying to quantize my sequences using Auto Correct on my EII. I'm listening to the metronome via the metronome output connected to a synth amp in my studio. I go to Setup > Auto Correct and then choose to quantize by 1/16 or 1/8 and then press ENTER. (I generally set my metronome at 1/4.) However, my sequences do not seem perfectly timed to the metronome. The Auto Correct function just seems to slightly make the notes closer to the beats, but not on them. Any ideas?
