+1 on the Deltalab unit. Great modulation with cv input control.

also, I'd recommend from some experience, any of the Lexicon Lxp units as they roll off the highs at around 12-15k which is quite nice. This may be what isn't working with the Ensoniq units which have quite a hyped brittle upper register.

The Yamaha R-1000 is quite dark, and has 3 band swept analog EQ.
Also consider the Klark Technic DN780.
