It doesn't really matter whether the DB25 is shown from the front or from the back: the numbering is standardized, so if you turn a connector around, the numbering is mirrored to make sure the same pin is referred to. Usually the left and right pin numbers are printed both on front and backside of a DB connector. You should use the modem port, select this port in SD for EII, and play with the "local talk" on/off settings in the Mac OS. Midi must be on (either omni or poly...) There's a database in this group with a list of compatible mac computers and some hints for using them. The PB5300 is mentioned. Note however that many many people have problems with non-working RS422 communication when using this particular powerbook 5300.
