RE: [emulatorII-list] Re: Cloning an emulator II ..

2011-09-14 by Adrien

Yes you217;re right, and i decided to keep my emulator II. It’s funny but I didn’t realise the potential of this instrument yet !!! I had it for years, using classic librarys sounds, not touching anything, loving it, but these days I’m having fun sampling stuffs, and transforming the sound ; )

But I suspected that it had more than that. All I had to do was to play with the buttons and learn how to use it ! ha ha ha. I’m mostly playing guitar, and building marshall vintage amps, Hendrix stuffs.

Yeah, I had this DIY reflex, wanting to clone it. I’m still analysing how I could do, cause it’s interesting, always a challenge. And why not, another version of the emulator, just the same but with some useful simple features. But I’d have to build several. I suppose I could sell it anyway, why not. I’m analysing what chips are available, and what chips I’d have to recreate. Then, a way to make it simple to build. After all , it looks complicate, but it̵7;s not so complicate. Still something diyable, and that’s cool.

Btw, I saw thie comparison between an emu II and an emax, very interesting, what do you think ? quite different ..

thanks,

Sorry, I hate to be THAT guy and dont mean to be a buzz killer, but why don't you simply keep your EII if you like the sound so much and save yourself all the trouble of rebuilding/clone it?! That project is going to cost you TONS of time and money and good luck finding all the ICs. I mean seriously, if you weigh up cost and time for that project against what you're gonna get for your EII, it makes no sense. Unless you have tons of spare time to kill and commercial ambitions to sell it as a mass produced viable EII replacement. But even then, I don't think the vintage sampler lover's market is large enough to justify it. Just my 2 cents...

The Emax I would probably be as close as you can get to the EII if you decided to sell and looking for a cheaper alternative.

Good luck!
George
