RE: [emulatorII-list] A several problems with EII

2003-09-04 by Rob Keeble

Hi,
Welcome aboard!

1. Sounds like the sampling input electronics are in trouble, have a look at
IC62. Check the Sample Gain control is okay and the wiring to the sample
input jack.Replacing the Sample and Volume pots is HIGHLY recommended - it
can really improve the sample and replay sound quality. Use BOURNS or
SPECTROL conductive plastic pots.

2. Could well be a power rail out of spec. The firmwave from the boot ROM
has loaded okay, but the EII is failing to load the OS from diskette. Check
the +5V rail on the digital board, and that +12V is on the floppy drive.

3. Thats bad RAM or a microcontroller problemo. Not good news..

However start by checking the power supply rails are all okay (break out
that DVM), as the PSU is a weak spot in the EII (and EI and EIII and
Emaxs...). Check the power rails are supplying the right voltages onto the
digital and analog boards - as the Molex connector on the PSU PCB is famous
for being useless. It is often removed or soldered up.

Once you are confident that the boards have the right power, you can then
chase down the problems from there. Keep in touch!

And I have the following 3 problems:

1. The sampling input doesn't pass the incoming signal,
but if I gain it as +40 db using internal amp of EII (Sample module -
gain set)- I can hear the incoming signal very very quiet.
The "Gain" knob makes no difference at all.

2. When I turn my EII on, it tells "Emulator 2 Boot in progress" and
then it freezes! In order to make EII working, I should try to turn
it on and then off for several times - then it successfully asks for
the disk - and seems working ok, except the problem 3:

3. I loaded a presets from the disk, but when I starting to play
them, the sounds became more and more distorted down to the
full silence...

I suspect that the problems 2&3 can be due to the bad internal power
supply. Am I right here or there can me anything else?

It will be great, if someone can help me with it. Any advice will be
kindly appreciated! Thank you very much!

Grigory
