Wow, that is exciting news! Obviously there are a few ifs, but this  
prospect seems MUCH easier than upgrading the rev 0 board. I've asked  
the seller about the serial. Hopefully I will hear back from him  
before the auction ends later today.

If I install it without the mods, am I risking anything other than the  
Mac connection not working?

Are there other risks to other components that I should be aware of  
(if something is wrong with the rev 1 board or something)? I want to  
make sure I'm taking every possibly precaution here.

Very sad indeed to see it trashed. Hopefully some current owners will  
be able resurrect and prolong the life of theirs as a result.
