There are three documents in the Files/Technical section that may help your tech:

EmulatorIIRS422Spec.pdf 
EII RS422 Schematic.pdf
EmulatorIISchematics.pdf
 
There may be pictures that help in the Photos/Emulator-II Technical section.

The official service manual is a 100mb pdf IIRC: too big to host in the files section. Youll have to source a copy elsewhere off-site.

Probably need to wait for Rob or someone else with specific RS422 knowledge to fill in further specifics.

As for shipping from CA to NY, yes put scrap disks in the drives and latch them. Best advice is to use a sturdy padded locking roadcase and make sure it cant "walk around" inside. Pack roadcase inside an outer carton, ship insured, and cross your fingers. ;)
