Mac & SCSI Headaches -> My walkthrough to success

2008-11-21 by Mike de Vries

Specifically, what worked for me.

- The mac-disk software was very helpful. I used this to format a floppy in the mac format. I then placed the self extracting Stuffit file (.SEA) on this disk.

- I was then able to install Stuffit onto my mac. [ I was unable to ever get stuffit to my Mac, so this was the first small celebration ]

- Using 'mac disk'  I was then able to copy the CD Rom drivers (Apple_CD-ROM_D-5.3.1.sit) file onto a floppy.

- I then placed this floppy in my mac, and copied this file (Apple_CD-Rom5.3.1.sit) to another temporary folder on my mac.

- The next step, I'm not sure exactly what happend, but when I tried to open the CD-ROM.sit file, my mac was saying it was unsure what program to open it with... So I went to the PC-Exchange program (In the control panel on my mac) and set the ".SIT" extension to point towards the stuffit program.. Even after doing this , 'PC-exchange' only had the option of a 'text' document as it's default.. I'm not sure if all the above helped or not.

- I then dragged the 'Mac CD_rom.5.3.1.sit" file ontop of the stuffit program icon.. once I did this, A folder appeared next to where the "Mac CD.rom.5.3.1.sit" resided, and in this folder was a few files.. (One a text document.. which I think was created by the prior step..??) but the IMPORTANT FILE was the "MAC CD ROM5.3.1.EXTENSION"

- I placed this extension file in the extension folder!!!!

- Powering down the MAC with the CD rom on (Set to SCSI ID 3, AND TERMINATED!) and a CD inside.. and success!

I hope there is not any mis-information in my description.. this was as best as I remembered what happened.

Regards
Mike

Congratulations, was it the new self extracting version of Stuffit
Expander (stuffit-expander. sea) that finally worked for you???

Please report *specifically* what worked for you so in the future
others might benefit from your experience and struggle here.
