Elm, the driver 5.3.1. was released with OS 7.6, so I guess there might be a problem in using it on system 6. Perhaps the sunrise driver is compatible with OS 6 ? Or why don't you upgrade to system 7.x ?? PS: I'm using the very same Apple CD300 as I mentioned to you on another group for connecting a SCSI cdrom to the EIII.
