Re: [emulatorII-list] Re: Silly question about sound designer for Emulator II

2008-11-11 by Rodney Moore

Hi esynthesist,

Thanks for your help and input. I was going to use EMXP to translate from .EII to .EB3
Then I was going to try the following methods of EII sample translation:

1. Use Chicken Systems to translate from .EB3 to Kompakt.

2. Use Kompakt to open the .EB3 file.

I believe I need to upgrade to Kompakt 3 to make this work. I was going to download a demo to test this. Method 1 would involve 2 translations which I don't know if the data and settings would be change much from the original E2 bank settings. Method 2 would be also be 1 translation unless when Kompakt opens the .Eb3 file, it translate it to a kompakt file and like you mentioned, Kompakt may not like reading EIII media on PC. Which method would you recommend?
Also, when I translated the EII files using sound designer, I believe it saves the .EII bank voices in 16-bit resolution and at a sampling rate of 27777 Hz. On EMXP, it gives the option of bit resolution and sampling rate. Do I translate the .EII samples using 16 bit resolution and 27777 sampling rate? the reason why I ask is I see other options for the EIII but that could be possibly to accomodate the Emax. Also, if I translate just .EII voices to .wav would I also use the same bit resolution and sampling rate?
Thanks again for all your input that EMXP program. I've been trying for years to find a way to translate .EII samples. I really appreciate all the work you've done and all the tools and resources that the legacy emulator community has put into this forum.
Thanks again,
Rod

Rod,

It's strange that SD4EII still doesn't see the EII files... I don't
know what's wrong there but you seem to have solved the problem with
FileTyper so I guess there's no issue anymore :-)

As an answer to your other question: EMXP allows translation of .EII
files to .EB3 files. The translation engine translates all possible
parameters which are compatible between the two samplers; the fact
that some E3 files will not sound like the E2 files is mainly due to
hardware differences. The translation engine is aware of some of
these differences though and tries to compensate some of them but
this doesn't guarantee a 100 percent fit of course. But you can
always finetune some of the parameters afterwards on the target
sampler.
What I don't know is whether the EB3 files generated by EMXP are
compatible with the EIII input files of Kontakt. The layout of the
EB3 files created by EMXP are exactly the same as the one used in the
bankfiles on EIII harddisks and cdroms. But I don't know if Kontakt
or other software out there is using the same standard. I remember
that some of those softwares only want to read/write EIII files
directly from/to EIII media, so not with "in between" DOS files like
EMXP's EB3 files.

extention.  I went ahead and added the file type of .EII to the
signiture editor file on MacDisk. I configured the Mac FileType to
E2BK and the Mac Creator to XFER. The mac floppy I created did indeed
show up as a document file instead of a PC document file on the mac.
The SD for EII application still doesn't see the bank when I get the
E-2 front panel mode and select Extras-Send Bank to EII. Is there
something in SD or other mac program I need to do?
>     Hexafuzz has also been giving me a lot of help. I should have
realized that the Filetyper551m. sit file was created in a newer
version on Stuffit Expander since the windows R13 version of Stuffit
had no trouble extracting the Filetyper file. I think Hexafuzz is
going to prepare a Filetyper.sit file made with an older version of
Dropstuff or stuffit. I couldn't download the newer mac version of
Stuffit Expander because the file size is bigger that what I'm
allowed to transfer in the free version of MacDisk.
>     On another note, the EII banks I've transferred to PC are all
recognized in your EMXP program. Will I be able to translate those
banks into .E3b format and keep presets, voices, loop points, ADSR
settings intact? I've been able to translate voices into .wav files
and reassign them into new presets for new software samplers. I was
hoping I could translate the .EII banks to .E3b banks and open them
in Kontact software sampler. That would be the closest thing to a
Emulator II vst or dxi instrument that I could imagine. I know you
mentioned that the algorithm that translates the banks works better
for some .EII banks than others. Once I've moved those .EII banks to
PC, I don't have to worry about resource forks unless I transfer .EII
banks back to mac. Is that correct?
