Re: [emulatorII-list] Re: Silly question about sound designer for Emulator II

Hello all,

I seem to be having a problem with FileTyper that I can't seem to overcome. I cannot seem to make Stuffit Expander expand the FileTyper.sit file onto my Mac. I want to fix the missing resource fork issues that I lost when I copied .EII files to PC. I am copying the files back to mac and want to use the Filetyper to repair the missing resource forks. I've provided the following background information and this is what I've tried so far:

Background information: I have the following 2 macs to test with:

1. Quadra 800 running Mac OS 8.1 with cacheing turned off (to use SD for EII).
2. LC 580 running OS 7.6 with cacheing turned off (to use SD for EII).
3. I don't have internet access for the Macs  so I use a PC to download the files.

This is what I have tried:

1. Downloaded MacDisk to my PC.
2. Downloaded and tried the following versions of Stuffit Expander and copied to the MacDisk Drive:
StuffIt Expander 4.0.1, Stuffit Expander 3.5.2
3. Downloaded all the .sit EII banks and Filetyper 551m, Filetyper 551 and Filetyper 4.4.2.
4. I am successful expanding the .sit EII banks to be read by the SD for Emulator II program
5. I am NOT successful expanding the FileTyper program on either mac.
6. I've tried to download the Filetyper program from other sources and get the same result. I've tried to transfer from the PC both using MacDisk and just to a plain PC floppy. Both macs can also read PC floppies too. The EII .sit banks will also expand even if I've brought the banks over on a PC formatted floppy to the mac.

I agree this shouldn't be that hard. I'm about ready to give up and try RegEdit to repair the missing resource fork issues. I need to do it for about 1700 EII banks. I originally had transferred all the Universe of Sounds (all 3 volumes) banks as well as all the factory disks and other EII libraries to PC not realizing about the resource fork information that would not be carried with the file once I copied it to PC. What am I missing?

Thanks for any help,
Rod

I just added step by step instructions to the files section. Email me
off-list if you get stuck. Good Luck.
