Re: New EII Owner needs help.

2008-10-28 by Heiko Mehring

Hello George,

another machine which contains the SSM2045 is the Oberheim DPX-1
Sampleplayer. I think this would be the cheapest way to get these
chips and also an 5 1/4" and an 3,5" diskdrive, which also works with
the EII. I`ve tried it successfully with the drives of my DPX-1.

Regards
Heiko

on the output board of the E2, and are the only chips I know of that
are compatible with the Emulator2. I am unaware of any correct
replacement for them? There is a Seil model synth that can be parted
for the SSM2045 chips as well. The easiest way to check for the bad
the voice/s is to use the individual outs (labeled 1-8) on the back of
the unit (do not use the main output). Go through the 8 outs one at a
time to see on which output there is no sound, or maybe some fuzzz..or
even a high-pitched ringing instead of the sample. This is the easiest
way to check possible bad voices, and without any tools needed. If you
do get a bad sound from one or more of those 8 individual outputs,
then I would say you most likely have some bad voice chips. The next
step would be to open it up (via the 8 or so screws around the
bottom-edge of the unit) ..lift the top up, and you will see the
output board
> to your left (be careful not to overstretch the connection lead
from the lcd/number-pad section to the digital board!). You will also
need to remove the power supply (via 4 screws on the outside back) to
get to the SSM2045 chips, unless yours is the "European model" with
the power supply on the right-hand side? much easier ;) Anyway, you
will see 8x SSM2045 chips located at the top of the output board
either way. From Right to Left they are 1-8 so if the output on #3 and
#5 have bad sound coming out of them, then you know that the 3rd and
5th SSM2045 chip may be faulty. Now try swapping the bad chips on #3
and #5 with any of the good channels #1 #2 #4 #6 #7 or #8. If the
chips on 3 and 5 are truly bad, the bad sound will follow them
anywhere you swap them. Hope this helps!
