Congratulations Jason and welcome to the group. You will find everything needed to get you started (and more) in the groups file and links sections and by searching the message archives. If you have a specific question that hasnt been covered, feel free to ask. > First, my software revision comes up as 2.3 and my serial number is > 1075 (model 6028.) > > I have two 5.25" drives, but the previous owner said something about > them being different "versions" and if I put one (wrong) version of > the diskette in the top drive, it would simply ERASE it. OMG! That > sounds just great. LOL! What he told you (or how youve interpreted it) doesnt sound correct. He was most likely talking about a software mismatch (disk overlay error) that occurs when you use two disks with different E-II OS versions (which will not erase your data). Unless you specifically tell the machine to Save or Format, you should not be in any danger of erasing disks. If you are really worried, you can use a piece of tape to cover the write protect notch on the disk. > Next I'd suppose I'd like to find out about Sound Designer and where > to look for that and the additional required hardware. Youll need a legacy Macintosh computer and a cable. Please see the groups file section, Mac compatibility database, Mac links, and search the message archives. Additional info is here: http://www.emulatorarchive.com/Samplers/E2Overview/E2SD/e2sd.html PS: Since your machine is serial number 1075, pay particular attention to the logic board issues mentioned there should you encounter problems. > Just in quick browsing I'm seeing the discussion of a project that > might involve adding a new storage interface to facilitate modern > memory storage devices (i.e. SD cards?) Adding a hard disk to an E-II today will not be possible due to now unavailable hardware and the project you noticed is still in development. I would advise learning proper operation of your new machine as-is and then focus on setting up a working Sound Designer system as your first "upgrade". Good Luck & Happy Emulating.
