Re: [emulatorII-list] Possible Idea - Emulator I disk drive hack

2008-07-17 by Mike de Vries

Cheers, the offer is much appreciated.. But I've got a spare semi working 400L drive here..
(Just out of interest, where did you source yours from? And If I needed another , how much ? )
I've also got the service manual for the 400L and i'm thinking that it's gonna be a lot simpler than the EII or EIII.. mainly because there is only 2 samples per disk.. no archiving options to deal with.. As the drive is very primative, this should simplify things even more.

I have not really spent too much time investigating the viability.. but I want to put out feelers to see if there are others out there who would use something like this.. No more than 500 in the world.. prob only 200 working i'd imagine. => prob only about 20 people who would want this kit.

I'll post up any further advancements.

Regards

Mike

Mike,

Same here in regards to the E1, love that beast of a sampler. I've got spare 400L drives if you need something to experiment with:)

I've been thinking about hacking the emulator disk drive, and seeing

if it can be replaced by a flash drive. (Still keeping the original

drive)

Possibly with a small LCD screen to name patches & and encoder &

buttons to scroll through them all etc. A switch would change between

the original drive & the flash drive.

This way, I could slowly take images of my disks, and archive them on

the emulator for recall, possible with faster load & save time.. and

not have to worry about floppy disks for this old and lovely sampler.

This could also mean that all us Emu1 users could download patches

etc very easily.

This might take a long time to investigate & implement.. If I did

this.. who out there would be interested in doing this to their

Emulator I ? (Not the Emu-II)

How much would you be prepared to pay? Less than $300? It would be a

kit that should be easy to install.

I honestly get so much joy out of playing the Emulator I, and I've

replaced the drive on mine.. but am worried about the long term

survival of it.

Regards

Mike
