You may be able to use "Apple File Exchange" (if you have it) to accomplish the same task under 7.0.1. http://mac.wikia.com/wiki/Apple_File_Exchange As far as updating to OS 7.1 or higher, if your system meets the requirements of the new OS version, you -should- be able to upgrade without losing anything. However as with anything computer related; if you have things you cannot afford to lose, you really need to back them up before making major changes such as an OS upgrade. Hope this helps.
