Hi,
I am sure you can get your EII fixed!
1) Cables can come loose, especially the Molex power connectors.
2) If the HD is bad it won't load the OS from the HD, but it will load from
a diskette in a good floppy drive.
3) The HD Operating System contains routines for formatting the hard drive
(and testing it). The HD manual supplement is on our web site. (manuals
section).
4) The hard disk can be replaced with a new or refurbished unit. It has to
be a Miniscribe 8425. We can put you in touch with a US supplier. But it
will cost $300+
5) You can use the EII without the hard drive, as long as the floppy drive
works.
6) You might be able to add a second floppy drive, if there is the right
internal cable, but its not really worth it.
7) You can replace the 5.25" drive with a 3.5" drive (we sell a kit for
this).
8) Replacement keys can be located, but top C can cost alot ($30+).
Check out our web site for all the details on the Emulator II....

Subject: [emulatorII-list] beatup E-II HD
Howdy everyone.
I'm gonna buy a slightly abused E-II for $50, tomorrow
(yeah!)...missing a couple keys, and "doesn't make any sounds" (maybe
not a good idea.. i don't care really if i can't get it to work. I think
these are one of the coolest looking boards ever made. I might just
mount it on a wall or in my car somehow...)
The guy says the HD spins up but the machine makes no sound (maybe it
won't boot up, or maybe he's just not clever enough to get it going.).
I've read that sometimes the floppy drive ribbon cable to the
motherboard becomes loose, so I'm hoping that's the problem.
I was wondering though, that if the HD is bad, how does one replace
it/format a new drive? can i use it with out the HD (maybe replace the
HD with a second 5.25" floppy), and just use floppies?
Thanks in advance for any thoughts.. I'll let ya know how it turns out
in a few days.. -Aren
