Hi, The NAMM EII was a prototype with the wire wrap boards hidden under the table...they were well behind schedule. I don't think the samples at this first NAMM were sorted out properly, probably ports from the EI library. Yes the E-mu team were well impressed with the EII sound and capability, at the time it was a major break through and caused a buzz in Silicon Valley. The factory library is okay, but the OMI library is the one to use - its a collection of user samples from top studios in the USA. E-mu always wanted to build a true 16-bit sampler from 81 onwards but they didn't have the resources or custom chip capability in 84. In fact they were out of money and Syco had to order the first batch of EII's to get some cash flow in. The EII digital electronics are very good, but the slow envelopes and the rather weak SSM2045 filter chip lets it down a bit. If only they had used the SSM2040.
