Re: [emax] IDE to SCSI to CF card adapter setup?

2013-11-06 by Ted Summers

Perfectly logical question actually.
Yes, it's been addressed and the detail is in the "Database" section of the group, parts that have been tested with Emax.
Specifically the ACARD should be in the database details, if I recall.

Acard 7720U and 7720UW I have tried with an IDE to PC Card drive (generic- no model #) and it worked.
In fact, that is what I have in my Emax 2 presently.
and also 7722Q (with an ATAPI Zip Drive) - it only works with true ATAPI devices - CDROM drive did not work in emax with this though- in case you were thinking it, although it worked in my PC with CDROM.....

The only problem is these are $$$$$ - for awhile you could find them for $40-$60. But then they dried up- especially when people found out you could use them for this purpose it's like all the prices got jacked up...ebay looks lik $100, then you have to buy a drive.

Additionally- you have to check the firmware on them. They don't work unless you have the latest firmware and you have to update them in a PC...

WIth that said- I haven't tried that particular drive you link to, so I can't guarantee it works.
Some of these CF adapters work and some don't.

I know that Ted will complain that this has been asked a dozen times before and should be put into the FAQ section of our user group so I will add the disclaimer that for some reason, the search feature of our group does not give me any feedback on this topic.

Disclaimer aside and perhaps ( for the umpteenth time), I will ask again- to great annoyance to many of you that have already posed this question, BUT

Has anyone matched this

with anyone of these (which one would work, I have NO idea)

http://www.acard.com/english/fb0101.jsp?ino=43

to create a CF card reader system that our EMU's with SCSI can use?

PCD's are rather scarce now, so it'd be nice to know that if needed, an alternative can be assembled for those in need of a card readers system for their SCSI equipped samplers.
