well, I\ufffdve noticed some leds on top of each key of the keyboard, and I
thought that they might be used to make "chord locks". That would be
extremely cool for the non keyboard players here ;) (me included)
So, the keyboard inclusion may not be a bad idea afterall. I doubt that a
small company like Elektron would risk to put a keyboard in just for design
issues. Keybeds are the ones that give problems most of the times, and
really increase the costs... but we\ufffdll have to wait and see....

If I remember well, the leds are feedback from what the sequencer plays on
the currently selected track. But I am not sure...

I don't know what the little leds are for. But again, according to
what Elektron has told me when I asked them this directly, the function
of the keyboard is not different than with any other synth/sequencer: to
play sounds and program sequences as well as to trigger sequences.

Sidstation newbie troubles

2003-08-21 by V Silly

Hello folks,
I just bought a used Sidstation.

It is running OS 1.1.
I am using a Macintosh and my sequencer is Digital Performer.

When I start up the Sidstation I have blinking brackets around the word
[Patch]

If I press Enter to try to go to the patches the brackets stop blinking
and the sid is frozen and will not respond to any other buttons.

When I power on if I go to [System] and push enter it seems to respond
normally.

The previous owner says all was working right up until he shipped it to
me. He thought maybe I should try reloading the patches, but so far I
cannot figure out how to do that. This is my first synth of this type.

Is it possible the data got corrupted in shipping?
The unit seems to be functional but seems to crash if I try to get into
the patches...

Does anyone have a suggestion of what to do?

Thanks
-V

1.1 or 1.11? mine reads "OS1.11 R32 (C)2001" so maybe your OS is old?
but I don't think that would cause the problem you're encountering.

you should have blinking brackets around the "Patch" menu. you should
also be able to access it though :-(

have you tried accessing the Patch menu with all MIDI cables unplugged?
you might be sending a MIDI message to the SID that's messing things up.

if you get the same problem with all MIDI cables unplugged then I would
suggest:
1) reload all patches and see if that helps (probably not); then
2) contact Elektron to see if you need an OS update; it sounds like
your memory is corrupt and an OS update should solve that problem (I think)

I feel your pain, though. I purchased mine used and immediately lost
all patches because the power connection was kind of loose. The seller
said he never experienced this; but who knows.

<crossing my fingers for you>
Joe.

I had this problem: The first power supply I got for my Sidstation was a
variable-voltage type. One day I turned on the SS with the voltage at the
wrong setting. It must have put some impossible settings into the preset
memory, because (after I fixed the voltage and rebooted it) when I tried to
go to the patches, the machine would lock up (just like yours).

I cleared this up by going to the system menu->Mem->Reset/Erase. I had no
patches after that, but it booted up again ok, and I could restore patches
from a SysEx patch dump. I am running OS 1.10 R33.

Hey Joe,
Thanks for your thoughts! Happily the problem is now solved! the
previous owner called me back with directions for how to reset to the
factory defaults, which cleaned out the memory, and then I was able to
upload patches to the Sid. This is one wild and crazy synth.
:-)

!!!
Thanks!!!

Excellent! I'm glad to hear that it worked out for you. Now prepare
for many sleepless nights :-)
