MD crashes

MD crashes

2002-05-18 by falabala66

Hello everyone...
I've had my MD for about a month now, and although I love it
feature and sound wise, it has been crashy.....At first I thought I
was in midi feedback/junk sysex land, but, it has crashed without
any midi hooked up to it at all..Crashed=stops making sound,
drum keys unresponsive, must reboot to fix.....
Does anyone else have these problems? Is the MD just crashy
in general, or do I have a lemon.....BTW, I have 1.11
installed........I have contacted Elektron, but no answer....Must be
busy. Anyway let me know any thoughts on the issue......
Cheers, Jeremy

I have had mine for about 5 months and it simply just crashes all the time
and i'm getting really sick of it, the MD is a seriously flawed piece of
gear, i'm tired of giving it the benefit of the doubt, it's noisy, you
cannot pan anything loud with a long decay without weird aliasing, the
seperate outs all still too noisy to use realistically in a recording
situation, and it crashes all the time, which means you have to flick the
power on and off soft reboot it, redo all your global settings all the time
(at least once a day for me) and then have it freeze up again. I actually
think it is because of the pattern retrig a1-a16 that the freezes are
coming from. it is such an annoying default feature to have c4 and other
keys trigger the first 16 patterns on the MD when you have it synced to a
ext sequencer and MidiMachines and whatnot on the go, then go and reset them
all again and wait for a couple hours and soon it will freeze up and need to
be soft reset again, if you're lucky like me, one time when it freezes and
you turn it back on again, ALL YOUR PATTERNS AND PROGRAMS WILL BE GONE! 5
months work gone forever, i have old backups but had a month1/2s worth of
new and modified kits all gone, and why? because the os is buggy as hell and
no one seems to know why. i own 3 pieces of gear and 2 are by elektron, but
i am becoming less and less impressed by the day with them......

Arrrrgh! Sorry to hear you're having similar machinedrum
problems Jason; Elektron replied and told me to send it
back....My crashes are very random, too random to trust at a
show, or even for serious work in a studio....When midi is
hooked up, a crash is pretty much imminent (and I've disabled
sysex, turned off midi through, and turned local off) and when no
midi is hooked up, it might crash and it might not, who knows?
I'm with you on feeling intolerant of crashes; The whole
reason I bought an MD is because I wanted the stability of
hardware, but it's been acting like a damned computer!
I do hope that they can fix the problems, because I really want
to keep it as it's an otherwise brilliant piece of gear with no real
alternatives, but if it continues to be crashy, I'll have to take it in
the bathtub with me.........plugged in!
Anyways, you might try and contact Elektron.....I believe it is
under warranty for a year. Definetly mention the unnacceptable
noise floor, because my MD (about a month old), is pretty damn
noiseless; perhaps they've found a way to fix the noise
problem....
Cheers and good luck,Jeremy

I know you don't want to hear this but i've had my MD for a couple
of months now and it's never crashed, so i doubt it's a software
thing. I have it hooked up to a Roland MC80 sequencer, works
fine here.

Yah, same with mine, ive had it for about 6 months now, it crashed once, and
that was because of a midi feedback loop.
I was a beta tester for past Machinedrum OS's and not a single one of them
has had any issues like the ones your describing
Definitely contact elektron...it probably has some hardware problems.

Thank you. actually, I do want to hear this...It means that there
are some machinedrums out there which are perfectly functional
and stable...My big fear is that I'll get my machinedrum back, or a
new one, and it will be just as unstable....I'd rather think it's my
MD than that they're just generally buggy...Anyone else have
crash free operation, particularly when hooked up to a software
sequencer?

I've only had my MD for a few weeks, but in that time I've had it hooked up
to MOTU DP3 via a MTPAV interface. Just basically sync'ing the MD to DP3's
clock. Haven't had any problems or crashes.

Sadly, I haven't seen Elvis yet, though...;)
