MachineDrum Impressions..

MachineDrum Impressions..

2001-07-16 by revtor@aol.com

well guys Ive ben messing around for a few days with my new beautiful
machine, getting to know it, you know..
This is a great machine!!
Getting to and using all of the functions is easy once you know the
buttons. The step locks (where you can assign a certain step of a
certain track a certain value for a certain parameter :) are great
and really groove out the loops, and the LFo's really mix up the
sound very nicely..
bravo! I was so anxious to see the thing in the dark, and it sure is
cool, but the LEd's are a bit too bright.. That's my only
complaint!! : )
Chaining patterns into songs is really easy and convenient...
Man, I love it!!! worth every penny!!
can't wait until the OS is finalized to see what else they can throw
in. not that there isn't enough to mess with already!

peace,
~Steve

DHL just delivered mine today. My girlfriend is
jealous. Oh, and she hates you Daniel :)

In short, this thing is amazing. The LFOs really make
it for me, since I do IDM and constantly changing
beats are a must. I don't really know what else to
say that hasn't already been said, other than 1 month
ago I was thinking "$1100 for a drum machine?!?!" and
now I'm thinking "whoa, that's it?"

Thank you Elektron, for another fine addition to my
"setup" (which consists of a MD and a sidstation,
that's it :)

MachineDrum comments

I got my MachineDrum today also... I can't write any tunes because I'm so
busy playing around with the synth capabilities! It's too cool for words!
The sounds coming out of this thing are great, and I haven't even scratched
the surface.

However, I have a couple of baddies that I have to mention:

- I have to turn the knobs A LOT to change parameters... I haven't read the
manual completely, so maybe this option is configurable, but if not, it
should be: KNOB SENSITIVITY. ie: how much I should turn the knob in order to
increment the parameter by 1 step. MY WRISTS ARE SORE! :)

- Sometimes the 16-step buttons stop triggering the sounds. Resetting the
unit fixes the problem, or if I switch back and forth a couple times from
record to play mode, it fixes also.

Back to the plus side ... I've got some speaker-shredding bass coming outta
this thing ... mmmmmmmmm :) This thing is super cool and I wish there were
more hours in the day so I can play with it more!

I was about to say the same two things... it's a good thing these
aren't crippling problems.

Also, when messing around with patterns of odd lengths, I noticed that
with a kit of 9 sounds and a maximum of 5 events triggered at once,
the MD intermittently skipped a beat or two, as if it were confused.
Powercycling fixed this.

Otherwise, this is a perfectly beautiful machine. I'm taking off on a
standby flight for Arizona tomorrow, and the MD will be taking up much
of the space in my only pice of luggage.

Check out a file I left in the md examples folder under the name
"ehud.mp3".

I haven't noticed this yet, possibly because most of
the patterns I've programmed so far have a certain
degree of randomness to them (Yay LFOs!)

The only "bug" I've noticed so far is when I switch
patterns while it's playing. It usually works, but
occasionally it will "lock up". It looks like it's
still playing, but it only produces one step of notes,
with no decay. Like it's stuck on a step. I don't
know if it's switching the patterns or if it's because
I'm in extended mode, and switching the patterns also
switches the kits. I'll try to take notice next time.
Anyone else having this problem?
