I was warned that they might crack by the Elektron tech. but I avoided screwdrivers and instead went for even pressure using just my fingers. the knobs are on there *very* tight, but you can definitely get them off with your fingers. I sort of gripped real tight and then wedged my thumb and forefinger against the knob (on opposite sides) and faceplate at the same time and let that be my leverage (without exerting sideways pressure). luckily, it went off without a hitch.... besides, a screwdriver near the faceplates of these machines just seemed like a scratched synth waiting to happen!
