> The Virus filters are imo the nicest digital filters I've heard to date > and they have no stepping at all (and believe, I'm also very critical > when it comes to that :-). excellent! .. i must check these out. I think it's good now, in the beginning of this retro-revival i'm hearing all sorts of bad PCM samples with really wimpy filters (like weak sampler filters). I'm interested in the issue of midi transmission / interpretation. There are 127 steps, so somewhere there needs to be interpolation so that the filter doesn't step. I've been impressed by the korg kaoss pad, indeed no stepping in these effects (and it's tracking 127 vertical and horizontal). ALso the nord micro filters sound nice & wet to me! (i guage a good digital filter by how the resonance performs at higher levels, and carving senstation it gives while sweeping) > And don't forget the SidStation has an audio input as well and great > filters! I use it as filter box very often! oh yes! :) .. it's an interesting lo-fi filter. . great for drums ! :) > I'm not so impressed by the original MS20 filter (have MS20 and MS50 in > the studio). wikd!! :) .. yes you're right, from experience with this box, they're quite harsh, and not really wet, the resonance screams in some disturbing ways. However, my favourite purpose for it would have to be tone generation, the thing self oscillates to create amazing harmonic drones ! (similar to the aboriginal didgeridoo from here). Another purpose for the self oscillation is to feed sound in, but with the pitch tuned to the sound ... it really rips things apart. You made these tones with your ms20? > I recommend the Sherman Filterbank and then the Mutronics > Mutator for analog filtering. Nothing beats the Sherman though... if > only I had the money for their limited Quad filter... :-( oh yes the sherman i've heard lots about. Tell me what it is about these filters that's so cool ? (interested!) :) > It can also be integrated in trance very well. Just started using it > more intensively in some trance mixes and with some extra FX it's just > perfect. :) .. any chance we can hear some at some stage? :) (elektron, with your awesome new PHP site, it would be possible to have a section for the sid community (with serial numbers) to share material and ideas).. pls check out www.micromusic.org .. carl has done a great job with this site, very clever BBS approach. I'm sure you'll all like it ... i visit this place all the time. > And if you play this sequence very fast, you can make drumsounds with > it. (taught by the master himself: Daniel!
