I think it's a shame they've given the P-I machines so much 
attention. These machines are definitely the least interesting and 
useable. Their respective parameter ranges are really limited, they 
sound hard and metallic (and not really "physical"!), I use them 
quite rarely. I understand that these are the most "avant garde" 
and "new" machines in the MD, but that doesn't really help their 
usability. Frankly, I think the FM snare sounds equally realistic as 
the P-I snare. But then again, that's only my opinion... :) Nothing 
really beats the EFM sounds for punch and flexibility, I use them 80% 
of the time. Tonal, fx, bass, melodic and....drums. They can do it 
all. A few weeks back I did a 3-part string section with 3 tuned EFM 
hihats, using 6 LFOs. Marvellous. ;-)
