I've only been able to crash my MPC twice:

  1) When I was messing around with the internal SCSI port trying to 
do a little modification :)

  2) When I made a MIDI loop... Which is what you did.  Turn off the 
MPC's soft MIDI thru and you shouldn't have the problem anymore.

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
