Syncing and ring modulating with the Sid

2001-07-27 by Ismael Valladolid Torres

Hi,

I purchased a SidStation last christmas. Until now I
have been just enjoying the presets, the default ones
and the Ninja ones which are all very expressive. Now
I am starting to work in my own sounds. Getting into
the manual I don't find clear the way of sync or ring
modulate two oscilators.

Let's suppose I activate o1 and o2, then I switch ring
modulation on o2. So, as far as I know, the o2
*modulates* the o1 and o1 becomes the *carrier* is
this OK? then, as it is known that the triangle
waveform is the best one to act as a ring modulator
and get metallic-like sounds, the oscilator I should
switch to triangle vaveform is the o2 true? but, when
I activate ring modulation on o2, that o2 seems to
keep on sounding itself and does not act just as a
modulator for the carrier o1 true? any way to stop o2
from sounding and just act as a modulator?

Now I activate o1 and o2 and switch sync on o2, so o2
*syncs* o1 and this means that the waveform o1 is
reseted each time o2 crosses 0 true? but now again o2
keeps on sounding and can't be used just to sync o1
true? any way to stop o2 from sounding?

If I make a wavetable for o2 and in some steps I
activate S and R, so this means that in those steps,
o2 is syncing or modulating o1 true?

By the way yesterday I started working with wavetables
looking at some existing patches and were able to
manage myself getting some nicer-than-nice sounds...

Sorry if this all seems obvious to you all but this is
for me the synth with the most peculiar engine I have
ever dealt with!

Thanks a lot and best regards,

Ismael
