on the MD, the fx only reside on the master outs, so
anything you route through an individual out will be dry.
the monomachine has fx that can be assigned to different
stereo pairs and mono outs, but you'll need to configure
your kit to make the most of them.

i prefer to use as many outs as i can record at once - it's
a more flexible arrangement, it's more editable, and
you can use external effects on individual sounds, rather
than the entire track. i also found early on that the
machinedrum seemed to lose some clarity when a whole pile of
sounds were stuffed through the master outs, but that may
have been my imagination. i definitely prefer the sound of
all six outs at once.

in short: if you can, unless you insist upon using only
the synth's effects on its sounds, record multitrack.
