definitely... when i first got my MD i made a bunch of minimal loops that when muted/unmuted and a few pattern changes added in would be great "complete songs" in the minimal/dance/drummy sense. Actually, if I had to choose between the two I'd keep the MD because the instruments are very flexible. You can make a lot of melodic / bass elements out of the drums. since we just moved the only gear i have with me now is my MD next to my bed with headphones. It's a very entertaining box on its own.
