Hello All
To help get things started I have posted pictures of The Dragon Synth
[in the Photos section under `Larry T. Studio (sort of
)]. This is my
Analog Modular Synthesizer using the DotCom as a starting point but
being expanded using whatever I have purchased over the years and not
yet built/used and whatever I come up with to add on in the future.
As I have indicated in some posting to the original
synthesizerscomgroup, I love what Roger has built, but there are so
many ideas and different ways to do things that he will never be able
to do them all! So I'll get what looks interesting and build as I go.
I have been dreaming of building this kind of system since the late
70's when I was in school and had no money. I remember the PAIA 2700
series, then the 4700's, and even bought one or two kits expecting to
build and entire system. But I was young, in school, and broke. By
the time I could buy anything, modular systems had disapered
completely and I was settled for closeout equipment from Guitar Center
like the Akai X-7000, Casio CZ-1, Ensoniq Mirage Rack, Roland MT-32,
Yamaha TX-81Z, and so on. At some point I'll add some pictures of my
`digital' rack and keyboards just to round out the sound generating
portion of my studio. (I'm so old, and still so broke, that I'm still
using Atari ST/Falcon/TT hardware to run everything via MIDI. Ain't
eBay wonderful for buying more old equipment
) I've been collecting
individual boards and kits from people like Ken S. (CGS,
http://www.cgs.synth.net/), Tom G. (EFM,
http://www.ele4music.com/index.html) {at this point, Tom seems to be
out of the hardware module biz and into software modules instead),
Larry H. (Stooges, http://www.wiseguysynth.com/larry/default.htm),
John B. (Blacet Research, http://www.blacet.com/) and Paul S. (MOTM,
http://www.synthtech.com/motm.html) for the last several years, but
never really got started building anything. Since I got my DotCom
base system in June of this year, I've completed 2 MOTM kits and 4
Blacet kits. I got 2 more Blacet kits and 10 or 12 EFM kits to go.
I'll post updated pictures as I add on modules.
In the mean time, I've enjoyed, and on occasion participated in, the
discussions on several of the groups related to the equipment I've got
and considered. Anyone that is waiting, take the plunge! Once you
start you WON'T have any regrets!! I am hopeful that Roger will
change his mind about the synthesizerscomgroup group, but in the mean
time, I'll keep reading, and posting, here instead.
I also want to thank all of the many posters that have given me ideas,
knowledge, and indirectly, encouragement to pursue my dreams and
desires. One day I'll have some tunes to post, and I'll look forward
to the responses, good or bad, when I do.
