Hello All, What a great site - lots of tips for a new user like me. Maybe you can help. I have just acquired an MX100 MKII with DSR and DCD upgrade. I have downloaded several MIDI files from various sites, some of which, usually fairly small files, play fine. Others will only play back one channel ie the right hand. Does anyone have an explanation and cure for this? Thanks. Danielle

From your DSR control box, use the Function key and get into the menu for the Piano Part. The settings should be L=1 or Prg, and R=2 or Prg. Probably your present setting is R=##. Some of those MIDI files probably have both a L and R part and you might have the R part turned off. Your owners manual will have this information under "import files". Good morning, everyone. I would like to amplify Carol's comments. The Disklavier has a split personality: it is part piano and part tone generator. When you play a MIDI file (either from the internal drive or from an external source, such as your computer), you have to instruct the piano as to which tracks it is supposed to play and the tone generator--by default--will play the remaining tracks. When a file has been created on the Disklavier itself or is published by a knowledgeable publisher, there is a code in the file that tells the Disklavier which tracks are to be played by the piano and which are to be played by the tone generator. For all other files, you have to make the choices yourself. There are two places where you make similar settings. In one case, the settings are for MIDI data received from an external source. In the other case, the settings are for so-called "Import Files"--which are MIDI files that do not have the special Yamaha-specific code mentioned above. In your case, the situation is a bit more complicated because you have a DSR in the equation. Before you do anything, you must make sure that the DSR1 is set up properly with the piano so that the DSR1 and the piano are communicating on the correct MIDI channel with the proper delay setting. If the DSR1 is set up correctly, then it will send the tracks that YOU choose to the piano and will play the remaining tracks with its tone generator. Once you have set up the DSR1 and Disklavier properly, press Function on the DSR1, navigate to MIDI Setup, and press Enter. With PianoPart selected on the next screen, press Enter again. The PianoPart area actually has two screens of information. On the first screen, you have a setting for PianoReceive. This governs the playback of MIDI data from an external source. The best default setting is "PRG(All)." On the second screen, you have two settings: L= and R=. These are settings which map tracks to the left- and right-part cancel buttons on the DSR1, and they affect the playback of "Import Files." The best default settings are L=PRG and =PRG if you think that you might want to use the part cancel buttons. Otherewise, you can set L=PRG(All) and R=##. Regards, PianoBench
