William, Two editing packages to consider are ProAudio from PG music for about $29.95 and CakeWalk I don't remember the price. ProAudio is more then adequate, I use it all the time. Cakewalk is very good too, just a little more sophisticated. Jim

You can use any sequence programm, for instance XG works from Yamaha is good and cheap, but also Cakewalk, Cubase, Logic will do. There you can open the midifile and change the pianopart to channel 1, the channel on wich the acoustic piano will play . Otherwise you have to change the settings of the control unit of the disklavier, go to midisetup, pianopart, and try to find the right channel on wich the pianopart is set. But in this way you have the risk to have to change it every time again to another channel. With a sequence programm it is more comfortable, and you can save those changes you have made. There is another way of doing this using either Yamaha's on board sequencer using the floppy or an external computer using a software sequencer hooked to the Yamaha's controller box. This saves you from having to make any channel changes in the MIDI file itself or tweeking the channels on the Yamaha controller. I am reposting a message from earlier this year from George (PianoBench). I hope that he does not mind... Danny ************************************************************* George wrote: In most cases you can leave the channel assignments alone if you make an important setting on the Disklavier When playing a SMF from a floppy disk: Function: MIDI Setup: PIano Part: (push right arrow button twice to get to the next page): set Import File L and R to PRG or set L to PGR(All). When playing a SMF from a computer: Function: MIDI Setup: PIano Part: set the Receive Channel to PRG or PRG(All). When you do this, 95% of the time, the piano parts will play on the piano and everything else will play on the tone generator. What happens is this: The Disklavier will examine the MIDI data stream and look for the lowest numbered MIDI channels with a piano group voice. Piano group voices are: 1. Acoustic Grand Piano 2. Bright Acoustic Piano 3. Electric Grand Piano 4. Honky-Tonk Piano 5. Electric Piano 1 6. Electric Piano 2 7. Harpsichord 8. Clavi In the 5% of the case when this does not work as you would like, it is usually because a voice like Harpsichord gets played on the piano. Regards, PianoBench
