MIDIKit (http://www.geocities.com/mixage) is a pre-OS X Mac program that will
do the job. It costs $12. Although I have not tested its ability to convert a
file under OS X in the Classic environment, I have verified that the program
will run under OS X in the Classic environment. The program does not play
MIDI files, so it does not interact with any system-level MIDI drivers.
Many sequencers, such as Performer from Mark of the Unicorn, will also do
this translation, but unless you need the primary features of a sequencer, a
sequencer will be overkill.
