Settings for PianoSoft Plus Audio CD

Settings for PianoSoft Plus Audio CD

2015-01-27 by rightnightboy@...

Hello everyone I recently got the Schubert trout quintet PianoSoft Plus Audio cd for my MPX1.

http://www.yamahamusicsoft.com/fr/instrument/Disklavier/product/1001655/Trout+Quintet+-+Franz+Schubert/Trout+Quintet?currency=USD

1-I realized that the 2 audio channels (or tracks) are different: one for the mono audio recording of the string quintet (which plays on both left and right speakers nevertheless ) and the other one for what it seems data for the disklavier... Is it always the case ? meaning that with this type of PianoSoft Plus Audio cd the audio part can never be in stereo ?

2- the CD is being played on a DKC-850 which is hooked to my mpx1. When I play it, all is ok but I also sends the midi piano track to the sound module... which means that i have the mpx1 playing and another piano from the sound module. How to disable this last one since I dont want to hear it ?

3- Thirdly if I want to play myself the piano part along with the audio recording of the strings of the cd, how do I stop the disklavier part from playing ?

4- Lastly does anyone knows of other cd of that type (PianoSoft Plus Audio) or from other parties that are available (with real audio recording of real instruments and not synth modules) in the "concerto with orchestra" genre ? I could not find any that would surely play on the disklavier.

Thanks in advance for your hints

Alan Pasqua - "Seasons" PianoSoft Plus Audio CD Missing Guitar?

2015-01-31 by ROBERT LEBLANC

I just noticed that the Alan Pasqua - "Seasons" PianoSoft Plus Audio CD indicates guitar (Ramon Stagnaro) as one of the accompanying instruments. The guitar reference is printed on the CD itself as well as indicated on the CD jewel box liner notes (front and rear) . H owever, when I play back the CD there's no guitar on any of the tracks? All I hear are Disklavier piano, bass (Tom Kennedy at that!) and percussion. Can anyone confirm that the reference to guitar is simply a typo? Out of curiosity, I auditioned the PianoSoft Plus Audio tracks on the YamahaPianoSoft web site and likewise didn't hear any guitar.

I did notice that the liner notes on my Alan Pasqua - "Latin Jazz" PianoSoft Plus Audio CD also indicate Ramon Stagnaro is featured on guitar, and on this CD the guitar tracks do indeed exist! Just saying . . .

Thanks . . . / Robert

One of my favorites! No guitar on mine… Just the trio. How about Summertime! Killer arrangement!

Where are Keyboard Measurement Settings Saved?

2015-02-08 by ROBERT LEBLANC

When the Keyboard Measurement is run where do the calibration results / settings reside? Do they get stored on the control unit or on one of the DKV piano circuit boards?

Related to the above, after upgrading the control unit, say DKC500RW XG, with a DKC850, is there any reason to retain the original control unit? I’m aware that the DKC850 provides a Maintenance and Test mode, thus other than retaining the disk drive, the original control appears redundant?

Regarding your 2nd question. I've found that the original control unit has some big advantages which is why I use the "add-on" setting with my DKC-850 and DKC-500RW xg.

1. The ensemble/accompaniment tones/sounds are much better than the DKC850 produces.

2. If you record you can layer up to 16 tracks of piano and ensemble sounds.

3. Calibration, testing, and having a DK tech do diagnostics is more complete.

4. If you have a PRO model the fidelity of the PRO recordings you provide or from sources like Yamaha's e-competition are much better.

5. If you have a Silent model the digitized acoustic grand piano accompaniment is of a Yamaha Concert Grand sampling and is far superior to the acoustic grand sampling included with the DKC850.

6. Having both head units set up this way also allows 2 stereo outputs so you can layer accompaniment/instrumentation from both units out to a stereo amp or multiple amps/monitor speakers etc. Example: I can have the DKC-850 putting out harpsichord and the DKC-500 flutes and acoustic piano simultaneously.

I'll have to search back from prior postings, but I believe there are a few other advantages to setting up your Disklavier in this manner. For those who really want DK-Radio and TV, it's simply moving the main cable and one setting on the 850 menu and you're done.

Lastly, Yamahamusicsoft dot com is running their Valentines 20% off sale on all Pianosoft music, not a bad deal.

The Measurement table data on older Disklaviers is stored in the PK-CTRL board, in the bottom of the key drive unit at the treble end of the piano.

If I were you, I would hang on to the control unit. You just never know...

Bill,

Thanks. As always, you're most generous with your helpful replies

As for the original control unit, yes, I'll hang on to it for a variety of reasons.

Thanks for the info and for sharing your thoughts. Also, great news about the upcoming Valentine's 20% off Yamaha MusicSoft sale.

I’m most intrigued about your comment that the DKC ensemble/accompaniment tones/sounds are much better on your original control unit compared to the DKC850. Perhaps there’s more going on?

In my case, and as far as I’m aware, the same tone generator chip and wavetable (DB50XG daughterboad) is used on the DKC850 and my DKC500RW XG. Also, I often only use a few voices from my original control unit (or none at all) and use newer sound modules to supplement the control unit and to provide a broader palate of MIDI voices to work with.

Also, with the original control unit, I sometimes use voice layering and/or a keyboard split points to duplicate the acoustic piano part with another MIDI voice, or to allow two separate (external) voices to be controlled by the piano’s keyboard.

All things considered, I’ll be hanging on to my control unit.
